I love holidays. I love the decorations, I love the gift giving, I love the food. While I enjoy all the holidays, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day are my favorite.
The fall season excites me. Well, when the calendar says fall anyway. We don’t really have a fall season. We just have a time when the temperature starts to drop into the 80’s some days and sometimes we get a cool breeze. So the fall season excites me. It’s back to school time (big time school nerd here) and the beginning of the big holiday season. I like to put up a few decorations just for fall each year.
Halloween is always a favorite. The costumes are fun and who wants to pass up all the yummy treats. I do lean much more towards the cute side of Halloween than the gory side. I can do without the costumes covered in blood.
Thanksgiving is often a time of just my immediate family. One of our traditions when it’s just the four of us is to skip the usual Thanksgiving feast. Instead each of us picks one favorite dish and that’s what we have. One year it was fish sticks, tacos, ice cream and jello. Another it was BBQ meatballs, fish sticks, shepherds pie and salad. It’s fun and much easier.
Christmas is, of course, a huge hit for me. I adore all of the decorations – especially those that go on the tree. We’ve had trouble with that in the past due to our number of animals (6 cats) but have come up with a number of solutions and can enjoy all the usual Christmas decorations and traditions without too much trouble from the cats.
New Year’s Eve is really nothing special to me. Sometimes we have friends over for some fun but we usually end up in bed before twelve. New Year’s Day is what I really love. Who doesn’t like the chance to start fresh? What a wonderful gift each year!
