Not too long ago I read (well listened to) a book called How Not to Die (catchy title, huh) and really began to question my eating habits. Each chapter of the book deals with one of the top fifteen killers of Americans. It recommends dietary changes to prevent the illness of each chapter from reaching a lethal level. All of the chapters eventually lead to a plant-based whole foods diet.
I’ve switched to this diet for 80% of my meals. I don’t eat meat, chicken, or fish but do still consume some dairy and eggs. I am always trying to reduce the amount of dairy and eggs that are in my diet. It’s already dropped my blood pressure by 10 points. I’m convinced that the more strictly I follow it the better my health will be.
I also pay attention to my mental health. I believe in meditation, journaling and general relaxation as an everyday part of life. We live in a fast paced world and have to make time to slow down or it will never happen.
